Welcome Aboard: Little Lions Club

Little Lions Club is a youth fitness and early development program designed to introduce toddlers and preschool-aged children to sports through fun, structured play. Built around a soccer-based curriculum, the program helps children ages 2–5 develop fundamental motor skills, teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship in a positive, non-competitive environment. Classes are often delivered directly at preschools, daycares, and community locations, making it easy for young children to experience organized sports in a familiar setting while learning the basics of movement and cooperation.

The concept was launched in Williamsburg, Virginia, when founders PJ Johnston and Chris Miller combined their coaching backgrounds and professional experience to address a gap in youth sports programming. They observed that many athletic programs focused on older, competitive players, leaving few opportunities for toddlers who were just beginning to explore physical activity. In response, they created a play-based program designed to help very young children develop a love for movement and teamwork from an early age. As interest in the program grew among schools and families, the founders expanded the concept through a franchise model, allowing entrepreneurs to bring Little Lions Club programs to communities across the country.
