The one question all prospective franchisees ask: Do I have what it takes to be a franchisee?

The One Question Everyone’s Asking: Do I Have What it Takes?

This guy have to make a choice.

What’s the Question?

I know you, better than you know yourself. Underneath that tough exterior, and ever so slightly puffed up ego – there lies a tender underbelly. But no one has seen it. Not the guys on the basketball court who just like you cover their tender underbellies with full throttle chest slams, butt slaps, towel pops and fist pumps.

Not your employees who see you as some kind of wizard who makes things happen from sheer genius and willpower. Not your children in whose eyes you are a combination of super hero and ATM machine. Not even your devoted wife. “What?! But she’s seen me naked” you exclaim. No, she’s clueless too.

How do I know? Because she’s sound asleep and quietly snoring while you’re wide awake asking yourself the same question again and again: do I have what it takes?

The Donkey and the Grasshoppers, revised and retold by Rebecca Monet

A Donkey having heard some Grasshoppers chirping and singing was highly enchanted. Desiring to possess the same charms of melody, he asked, “Grasshoppers what is it that makes you sing so beautifully? Is there a special food that you eat?” “Yes,” replied the Grasshoppers, “we will tell you a secret. We drink only the dew found on flowers and leaves.” The Donkey was so eager to have a beautiful voice that he ate and drank only dew, and in a short time died of hunger.

Lesson #1: Where one may prosper, another may starve

It’s natural to envy another’s success or talent. In fact, envy has played an important role in human’s quest for resources and survival for centuries. Envy motivates us to strive to take what another person possess, achieve it for ourselves, or better it. […]

Trumpism and Franchisee Selection This might sound strange, especially coming from a millennial, but, Donald Trump gave some great, advice that would have a ‘uge, and I mean ‘uge, impact on how franchisors select their franchisees. Can A Big Franchise Ship Be Turned?

Can A Big Franchise Ship Be Turned?

There was once a franchise company, a very big ship with many years of significant history behind it. Thousands of franchisees were spread across all continents with the potential to make a major impact. But in past few years a deep rift had developed between franchisees on the frontline and the support services at headquarters, creating relational tension and operational sluggishness. The organization had many silos, and both senior executives and franchisees worked in isolation from one another. In some areas there were pockets of collaboration and entrepreneurial dynamism. In too many, however, there was fear, conflict and stagnation. These realities pose tremendous challenges to any Stage 4 Empire franchise causing one to ask: can a culture be transformed? Can a big ship be turned?

This is an excerpt from Rebecca Monet’s September article Can a Big Ship be Turned? found in the resource center on FranchiseExpo.com. […]

Steve Olson of Olson & Associates interviews 10 of the top franchisee recruiters. The final lesson: Stop Selling. Start Bonding.

Don’t Sell. Bond.

Don’t Sell. Bond. by Steve Olson

Times have changed.

When looking at the past in our rear view mirror, we can see that franchise recruiters could more easily capture a prospect’s attention, build camaraderie, and foster a personable connection with prospective buyers. Our sales prescription called for a dose of likeability, stir in some engaging conversations, and present a nice, pleasant personality. This approach could make the difference when leading a financially qualified buyer from their initial conversation to their program and FDD reviews, franchisee validation, discovery day, and closing event. The Empire Rules

Franchise Size Does Matter

I know you’ve likely heard otherwise, but trust me size does matter. If some politically correct Ms. Know It All franchise broker has told you otherwise she’s pulling your chain. Sure, there are a few David and Goliath stories out there in franchising, and like most Americans I like to root for the underdog. But bottom-line, it’s tough to go up against a behemoth franchise brand. Besides, David had God (a pretty big dude) on his side providing a serious competitive advantage.

This is an excerpt from Rebecca Monet’s most recent article The Empire Rules Unchallenged in Franchise Expo’s online resource center for prospective franchisees where she discusses the pros and cons of Stage 4 Empire franchise systems.

If you’re curious about your franchise system’s stage of growth, or what impact your stage of growth has on your franchisee recruitment we would be happy to discuss.
